Curation & Tompkins 1 Redevelopment Update

22 Jan by Jacob Steber

Curation announcement:

Late last year our current curator Ben Wilson made the decision to step away from the position of MCC Curator. Ben has been with us for the last two and a 1/2 seasons and all would be in agreement that during that time he has done an outstanding job. The feedback regularly received from players, past players and opposition alike is that they can't recall a time when Tompkins looked or played better which is testament to the work Ben has done over his time with MCC.

We therefore extend our thanks and appreciation to Ben for the quality of his work over the journey and wish him all the very best for the future.

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Fine Cut Turf Services to fulfil our curation contract requirements for the next 3 years.

Some will know Tim Heal and his teams work at Hillcrest Oval (which are the highest rated wickets in the competition) and where they are the current curators. More recently has been their work at Aquinas College, where there has been a noticeable difference to the quality of both the training facilities and match day wickets over the last 12 months.

We welcome Tim and his team on board and look forward to a long and prosperous partnership together.

Tompkins Park 1 replacement:

As we have communicated in the past the Club has been working on the replacement of Tompkins Park 1 wicket for the last 2 years, given the wickets are now more than 60 years old and in need of replacement.

We are pleased to announce that the funding for this project has now been fully sourced, and thanks go to the Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund, City of Melville and Kim Giddens State MLA for Bateman for their significant work and funding contributions to make this project possible.

The intent is for the centre wicket block to be replaced at the end of this season.

In this regard a kick off project meeting was held with the key Stakeholders including Club representatives, the Contractor and City of Melville on site at Tompkins this week.

It is great to see another club initiative that has been in planning for an extended period now move into execution phase and we will provide updates as and when they become available.
