In 2015 all at MCC were devastated when 2 of their young & promising players were diagnosed with a rare form of cancer within just a few months of each other.
Hugh Atkinson was just 15 when he found an Osteosarcoma on his left leg. Amanda Williams was 26 when a small lump on her ribs changed her life forever.
Sarcoma is a group of over 70 rare bone & soft tissue tumours commonly found in the limbs and trunk. Sarcoma is highly aggressive with only 40% of those diagnosed surviving 5 years.
It was this shocking news that prompted MCC to instigate the “Sock it to Sarcoma!” Cricket Round in the 2016/17 season with the aim to raise awareness of sarcoma and crucial funds for research. 2024 will see MCC, in collaboration with WA Premier cricket clubs, celebrate our 8th Sock it to Sarcoma Cricket Round 14th December.
To raise money and awareness of this devastating disease MCC and other participating clubs will ask all players to wear odd socks for the weekend.
